In 2018, Mark worked with Law Enforcement/Campus Safety in conflict resolution to provide education, training, and coaching specifically involving race and sexual orientation. He used the lenses and awareness of intersectionality dimensions (including real-life scenario-based learning) to guide the officers in identifying their implicit and explicit narratives, memes, and behaviors and shift their cognitive models and their emotional and behavioral responses. The structural and reinforcing causes were then identified by the officers and administrators. Mark presented recommendations to the hiring executive and worked with a longtime police officer on pre-engagement research, refining design, and co-delivering elements of the specific training pieces. Mark is in the process of initiating a law enforcement initiative (Building Beloved Communities) with some of his police (active/retired) colleagues. He has designed and taught certification courses that were accepted by the various certification bodies, through which his students were able to achieve their certifications.
