Maria Felice-Cedeño

Maria specializes in creating inclusive, empowering spaces where individuals of all backgrounds can thrive.

With over a decade of experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, Maria (they/them) specializes in creating inclusive, empowering spaces where individuals of all backgrounds can thrive. Maria’s journey began as a Cultural Diversity Advocate (CDA) in 2013, when they started facilitating safe spaces and designing DEI workshops that promote reflection, growth, and meaningful dialogue. As a first-generation Venezuelan and non-binary individual, their work is shaped by their own lived experiences of navigating multiple identities and understanding the nuances of cultural connection and belonging. Maria brings a deep commitment to nonviolent communication (NVC) and Intergroup Dialogue to guide conversations centered on empathy, resilience, and mutual understanding. Maria platforms the importance of recognizing and embracing diverse experiences and is passionate about helping organizations do the same. Their work has also included roles like serving as a board member for Planned Parenthood, where they supported expanding healthcare access to underserved BIPOC communities in rural Eastern Washington. With a foundation in cultural relations and a commitment to restorative practices, they are dedicated to building long-term, transformative change—creating spaces where all individuals feel empowered to learn, grow, and contribute to a more inclusive world.

Over the years, Maria has collaborated with organizations such as the Washington State Office of Independent Investigation, Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest, and Greater Spokane Progress, where they developed customized DEI strategies, leadership programs, and policies that foster a culture of belonging. Whether leading workshops, advising on policy development, or coaching leaders, Maria focuses on creating accessible, intersectional practices that empower individuals to engage with complexity, vulnerability, and shared responsibility for creating justice. Their heart-centered approach guides compassion and empathy to create safe and inclusive spaces. This allows participants to validate their own experiences with compassion and extend that same validation to someone else’s lived experiences. Maria holds a Bachelor’s in Speech Communication and Cultural Relations from Whitworth University with certifications in Intergroup Dialogue Facilitation and DEI curriculum development. They also have completed advanced courses in Decolonizing Nonviolent Communication and Trauma-Informed DEI training, along with participating in facilitation cohorts from coast to coast working with Greater Spokane Progress, Revive Center for Returning Citizens, and OAAARS.  Maria is currently working with the Office of Independent Investigation as their DEI consultant and as one of their PEAR team facilitators. These educational and experiential foundations, combined with their leadership roles and commitment to advocacy, equip Maria to design and lead DEI initiatives that foster lasting impact.
